EcoAlpha members recently visited the MinnSea Academy summer camp to deliver an engaging, hands-on presentation about pollinators. They introduced campers to the wide variety of pollinators—from bees and butterflies to hummingbirds and bats—explaining their vital role in helping plants reproduce and supporting biodiversity, food production, and healthy ecosystems. Through interactive activities and thought-provoking questions, the presenters encouraged students to think about how pollinator health connects directly to their own lives. The session also addressed the challenges pollinators face, including habitat loss, pesticide use and disease, making these issues relatable and actionable for a youth audience.
In addition to sharing facts, EcoAlpha members provided concrete, age-appropriate ways for students to make a difference, such as planting native flowers, creating pollinator-friendly spaces, reducing pesticide use, and educating others. Their interactive approach kept the campers actively engaged and thinking about solutions. At the close of the session, the principal of MinnSea Academy expressed gratitude to EcoAlpha for delivering such an inspiring program, noting that the members had set a strong example of youth leadership, environmental action, and ambassadorship for the planet. The event left students motivated to take part in protecting pollinators and empowered to see themselves as part of the solution.
