On May 11, 2025, EcoAlpha organized and led a successful park cleanup event at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, one of the city’s most iconic cultural and natural landmarks.
During the event, EcoAlpha’s members worked together to pick up litter, remove debris, and ensure that walkways, grassy areas, and sculpture surroundings were clean and welcoming for all visitors. Equipped with gloves, trash bags, and plenty of energy, the young participants demonstrated deep care for their local environment and took pride in making a visible difference.
Many visitors to the Sculpture Garden paused to express their appreciation and gratitude. They praised the youth for their initiative and thanked them for helping to keep the park clean, safe, and beautiful for everyone to enjoy. These spontaneous interactions highlighted the power of youth-led environmental action in fostering stronger, more connected communities. At one point, a mother pointed to a volunteer and said to her young child, “Look, a yellow bag—pick up the trash and put it in the bag.” EcoAlpha’s efforts served as a role model, inspiring not only community members but also the next generation to take pride in caring for shared public spaces.
As part of the national Nature Everywhere Day and Earth Day celebration, this event stood out for its meaningful impact and the inspiring example it set. By featuring EcoAlpha’s park cleanup as a model, the Children & Nature Network and Hennepin County acknowledged the group’s commitment to empowering youth to take direct action in their local communities and to foster deeper connections with the natural world around them.
